North Hollywood is a diverse area that has been recently undergoing many changes and development. Areas such as the NoHo Arts District have the intent of creating a walkable urban village, while other parts have turned into a metropolitan center, partly due to the construction of both Red and Orange Line Metro Stations. The NoHo Arts District contains more than 20 professional theaters, a large art selection, many stores and cafes, and the largest concentration of music recording venues west of the Mississippi. North Hollywood is part of LAUSD, with several public schools and private schools such as Harvard-Westlake and the Art Institute of California - Hollywood. The North Hollywood and Valley Plaza Recreation Center's have everything from lighted basketball courts, picnic tables and barbecues, and indoor gymnasiums. The 170 Freeway runs alongside North Hollywood, connecting it to the rest of the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles.
